The ground-breaking The Early Doors Club scheme which aims to make live music accessible to all is expanding to Hindley.
The Early Doors Club (TED) is a collaborative project (with Wigan Council and the UK Government) which hosts ‘after-work’ live performances on a Friday evening, with the aim of boosting footfall into the early evening economy, which should then hopefully see people visit other local venues after the gig.
It was born at The Snug in Atherton in 2023, due to businesses being concerned about low Friday night footfall since the pandemic and uses a “pay what you can” model, with no pressure to pay £1 or £20. All the money goes back into TED, supporting local artists, venues and the future of live music.
The Snug said “Live music should be for everyone, and that’s exactly what The Early Doors Club is all about.”
The Hideout in the heart of Wigan, St George’s Church in Tyldesley, The Coffee Shop in Leigh and The Snug in Atherton all host TED Club. Hindley Social Club now brings the number of venues to FIVE.
The Hindley launch on Friday 8 August sees a rare, intimate acoustic performance from none other than Liverpool band The Real People.
Fronted by brothers Chris and Tony Griffiths, The Real People are a cornerstone of the UK’s indie rock legacy. As pioneers of the Britpop sound and early mentors to Oasis, their influence runs deep — and their live performances remain powerful, soulful, and full of character.
This set is described as a “unique chance to experience their music stripped back, raw, and up close.”
