Wigan Athletic confirm death of fan after ‘medical emergency’ at Brick Community stadium

Wigan Athletic has confirmed the sad news that a supporter has died following a medical emergency during the first half of the Reading tie at the Brick Community Stadium last night (Tuesday 10 February).  

 

In a statement posted on its website the club said:

“Wigan Athletic are devastated to announce that a Latics fan has passed away in hospital following a medical emergency at the Brick Community Stadium on Tuesday night. 

“The Club would like to sincerely thank the medical staff, stewards, and nearby supporters for their efforts to assist during the emergency.

“We will be in touch with the supporter’s family to offer our further support at this difficult time. 

“Everyone at Wigan Athletic would like to send their heartfelt condolences to the supporter’s family and friends”.

 

Anyone who witnessed the emergency and feels they may need support has been encouraged to get in touch with the club.

 

Reading have also shared this statement: “Reading Football Club are devastated to learn that a Wigan supporter has passed away following a medical emergency at yesterday’s game.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the supporter’s family, friends and all at Wigan Athletic at this incredibly difficult time.”
