A group of talented young dancers from Wigan is preparing to take to the world stage once again after earning a place at one of the biggest dance competitions on the planet.
For the third year running, dancers from Miss Sutcliffe’s Academy of Dance in Pemberton have been selected to represent Team England at the Dance World Cup 2026, which will take place in Dublin from 8th to 18th July.
After coming through a tough national qualifying process, 40 dancers aged between 7 and 20 have secured their spots – an incredible achievement that puts them among the very best young performers in the country.
The Dance World Cup is the largest all-genre dance competition in the world, bringing together competitors from more than 60 countries, meaning the Wigan dancers will once again be competing on a truly global stage.
And it’s a stage they’ve already made their mark on. In recent years, the academy has returned home with multiple world titles and medals across a range of disciplines, building a reputation for excellence and putting Wigan firmly on the international dance map.
But behind the success and excitement lies a big challenge.
Travelling to compete at this level comes with significant costs, and the academy is now looking for support to help make sure every dancer selected can take part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Jennifer Fenney, who runs Miss Sutcliffe’s Dance Academy, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of every single one of our dancers. They work incredibly hard week in, week out and to see them selected to represent Team England for a third year running is just amazing.
“Competing at the Dance World Cup is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and they deserve every moment of it. They represent our academy, and Wigan, so brilliantly.”
The team is now appealing to local businesses and the wider community to help them get to Dublin, with sponsorships and support needed to cover travel, accommodation and competition costs.
For these young dancers, the dream is within reach, and with a little help from Wigan, they’ll be ready to take it.
