Wigan Soprano Lucy Farrimond releases debut album exploring “Home” and Heritage
Wigan born soprano and composer Lucy Farrimond is celebrating a huge milestone twith the release of her debut album Where The Heart Roams.
Originally from Standish, Lucy went to St Wilfrid’s Primary School and Standish High School before continuing her musical journey at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester. She later trained at the Royal Northern College of Music, graduating in 2023 with a Master’s degree in Performance in vocal and operatic studies.
Just turned 28, Lucy’s love for music started early. She began piano lessons at just seven years old in Wigan with Alan Atherton, before taking up singing in her early teens with Geoffrey Mort in Over Hulton.
But, it was during her time at Chetham’s that she was encouraged to pursue classical singing professionally, setting her on the path she’s now following.
Her debut album, which was released on April 16th sees Lucy not only performing as a soprano but also sharing her own work as a composer. Recorded with pianist Jack Redman and the Furness Festival Strings, it brings together English and Irish art songs alongside Lucy’s own original pieces for voice, piano and string quartet.
“At its heart, the album is about what home really means to me, growing up in Wigan and then moving away to study and perform. No matter where I go, those roots and memories always stay with me,” she said.
The album leans into northern identity and the beauty of everyday life, focusing on themes like belonging, returning and remembering. It celebrates the small moments that stay with you, from familiar places to shared memories, and how those connections shape who we are.
It’s a brilliant achievement and a proud moment for Wigan, with Lucy showing that no matter where life takes you, your roots are never far away. Where The Heart Roams is now available to stream and download here.
