The ‘Little’ Orrell deli making big waves beyond Wigan
Tucked away on Church Street in Orrell, The Little Green Platter Company has become one of Wigan’s tastiest hidden gems. What began as a passion project by founder Karen Green in 2017 has grown into a thriving deli, catering service, and soon-to-be wine bar—all centred around beautifully curated grazing boxes and platters.
With its signature mix of artisan flair, sustainable sourcing, and warm service, the company has catered for everything from VIP fashion launches to intimate weddings and children’s birthday parties.
After living in Australia from 2010 and falling in love with the relaxed “grazing” food style, Karen brought that passion home to Wigan and launched the business soon after her return.
“A lady with an incredible eye for detail, a passion for food and entertaining, and using her unique artistic flair to turn food into delicious showstoppers,” the company says of its founder.
Originally focused on made-to-order graze boxes for small gatherings, the company now operates from a stylish base at 43 Church Street, Orrell, where they also offer walk-in deli service and bespoke events catering.

Whether you’re planning a children’s party, a picnic, or a dinner party, The Little Green Platter Company has a variety of options:
- Vegan Graze Boxes – stacked with dairy-free cheese, hummus, seasonal fruit, and plant-based nibbles.
- Children’s Graze Boxes – fun-sized portions featuring mini sandwiches, veggie sticks, cheese bites, fruit, and sweet treats.
- Breakfast Boxes – packed with pastries, granola, yoghurt, and fresh fruit.
- Luxury Graze Boxes for Two – includes a generous mix of cheeses, charcuterie, antipasti, dips, crackers, and fresh accompaniments.
💷 Example Price: A breakfast box packed with pastries and fruit, to serve 2-4 costs £20, while The Artisan Cheese and Charcuterie box (serves 2-4) is priced at £38.
All items can be tailored for dietary requirements, including vegan and gluten free, allergies, or specific event themes, with options available for both collection and local delivery.

When we visited The Little Green Platter Company, we found details in the shop which all add to its charm, along with the smiley warm welcome from Karen and her team. Karen subscribes to a newspaper called ‘Happy News’, which is available for customers to read, and yes, it is just that, good news stories from around the world.
The chairs and tables outside aren’t just for customers, Karen told us they’re for anyone who might be out for a walk and “fancies a sit down.”
Also, there are eggs on sale, laid by their very own hens, called Dorothy, Sparkles, Sunny and Sugar.
What we love even more about Karen’s hens is that they are from Lucky Hens Rescue, a not-for-profit organisation in Hindley which provides ex-battery and commercial hens with a second chance at life, rehoming them with families and local businesses as pets.

And yes—“Green” really is their surname. The business name, The Little Green Platter Company, is not only a nod to founder Karen Green’s family name but also a perfect fit for the company’s eco-conscious ethos. With a strong commitment to sustainability, the team uses recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable packaging wherever possible—proving that their values are just as thoughtful as their presentation.
What’s Next for the Orrell Deli?
In exciting news for local foodies, and the thriving mini-bar scene in Orrell, which includes The Copper Tap and The Old Bank down the road, The Little Green Platter Company plans to the open “Board”, a cheese & wine bar upstairs at their Orrell location in Summer 2025. It will offer casual grazing nights, private tastings, and events celebrating British artisan food and drink.
As the business grows, Karen and her team continue to champion locally sourced produce, eco-conscious packaging, and family-run warmth—making them a real Wigan success story.
