1 – Red Door Bistro, Wigan
The phrase hidden gem is used a lot, but the Red Door Bistro really is. Just off Library Street, on College Avenue (opposite the Town Hall) Red Door serves up a classy Sunday roast with a proper homemade touch. Beef, seasonal veg, gravy and of course a Yorkshire pudding. 2 – Albert’s, Standish
If you’re after a stylish roast experience, Albert’s in Standish is hard to beat. Their roast platter to share includes beef, chicken and lamb, or you can stick with a single meat like their roast rump of beef. Albert’s also has a heated outdoor terrace if you want to eat Al Fresco.

Right in the heart of town, Gallimores on The Wiend is a Wigan institution. Now under the new ownership of Warren and Marie, but with Howard still on hand to provide advice and guidance, their Sunday roast comes with all the essentials: meats, roasties, giant Yorkshire pudding, and lashings of gravy for £11.95. A great pit stop after a stroll round Mesnes Park or some town centre shopping.

Yes yes, we know Dough is a pizza restaurant, but husband and wife team Rachel and Kai pride themselves on being able to offer a multitude of tastes. On a Sunday, their offering is Roast beef or chicken in a giant Yorkshire pudding, accompanied by roast potatoes, honey glazed carrots and parsnips, broccoli and gravy. If you’re with someone who doesn’t fancy that, pizza is still on the menu on a Sunday. 2 courses for £18.
