The popular Appley Bridge Duck Race is back this Saturday, 9 May, raising money for Appley Bridge Scout Group and Cancer Research UK.
The event starts at 1pm from the blue canal bridge on Appley Lane North, where 2,000 ducks will be dropped into the canal with help from the fire brigade before racing towards Parbold. The race itself is expected to last around 10 minutes.
After the race, the fun continues on the nearby football field with stalls, raffle prizes and activities for families to enjoy. Organisers say there will also be cash prizes, including a top prize of £350 for the winning duck. Ducks can be entered into the race for £2 each.
Local businesses have donated raffle prizes, including a free MOT, and organisers say the event is always well attended, with local pubs and shops getting involved throughout the day.
Parking is expected to be limited, so visitors are encouraged to arrive early or use the nearby train station.
