The shelves at Bargain Booze in Ashton-in-Makerfield might usually be stocked with bottles and brews, but right now the team are busy planning something altogether spookier.
With Halloween just weeks away, assistant manager Jayne is pulling out all the stops to transform the shop into a frightfully fun haunted hotspot – and it’s all in aid of a cause very close to her heart.
Nine years ago, Jayne’s grandson Charlie was born poorly and cared for in Wigan Infirmary’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Thanks to the incredible doctors and nurses, Charlie is now a thriving, happy little boy.
He was discharged on Halloween, which sparked Jayne’s idea to mark the occasion each year with a big community celebration that also raises vital funds for the baby unit.
Since then, Bargain Booze has become a must-visit Halloween destination in Ashton, with Jayne going bigger and better every year.
Now in its ninth year, Fright Night at Bargain Booze is returning on Friday 31st October 2025, from 5pm–7:30pm, at 333 Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield.
Expect eerie decorations, spooky surprises, and plenty of ghoulish fun for all the family. Jayne invests a huge amount of her own time, money, and energy into creating a night the community can really enjoy – from dressing up the shop with new decorations to dreaming up fresh ways to spook and delight visitors.
Locals who’ve attended before will know just how much effort goes into making this night memorable, and newcomers can look forward to a warm welcome (along with a few friendly frights!).
Most importantly, every penny raised goes straight to Wigan’s Special Care Baby Unit – the very team that once cared for little Charlie.
So, mark the date, dig out your costumes, and join in a Halloween tradition that brings Ashton together for a truly special cause.
