The Bryn Community Walking Day is back this Sunday, bringing the streets of Bryn and Ashton-in-Makerfield to life.
It takes place on Sunday 5 July at 1.30pm, starting and finishing at Bryn St Peter’s CE Primary School on Downall Green Road.
The walking day is open to everyone in the local community, and brings together schools, church groups, and bands for a huge community celebration. Those taking part will generally gather at St Peter’s from 12pm before setting off. They’ll follow a planned route through the streets, and once everyone makes it back to the school, there’ll be a short service along with a fair, food stalls, drinks and other activities.
The event was brought back last year for Bryn St Peter’s Primary School’s 150th anniversary and went down really well, with an estimated 500 people taking part or watching from outside their homes as it passed.
Mike Walker, Chair of Governors at Bryn St Peter’s, said: “The joy it brought to so many people when we did it last year and the way it brought the community out together was fantastic and we hope it gets as great a response this time.”
He also said Walking Days like this have been part of the area for well over 100 years, and used to be an annual tradition, but hadn’t taken place for around 10 years before last year’s return.
Organisers are hoping for another strong turnout this year as the community comes together once again to celebrate one of Bryn’s most treasured traditions.
