Former Revolution bar in Wigan under offer after more than a year on the market
After almost two years standing empty, it looks like something could finally be about to happen at the former Revolution bar on King Street in Wigan town centre.
After more than a year on the market, it is currently under offer, and listed as Sold Subject to Contract with an asking price of £500,000. It went on the market in May last year with a guide price of £550,000.
It isn’t yet known who has agreed to buy the building or what they plan to do with it.
Revolution closed in August 2024 as part of a nationwide programme of closures after the company announced a number of sites would shut in response to rising costs. It had been part of Wigan’s nightlife since opening in 2008.
For many of us, it’s another reminder of just how much King Street has changed.
Anyone who spent time in Wigan town centre over the years will remember King Street at its busiest. Whether it was Turnkey, Jumpin’ Jaks, The Playhouse, Ibiza, Walkabout, Liquid & Envy, Revolution or The Hub, almost every building had its moment. While a handful remain, the street has changed dramatically, with several former clubs and bars now standing empty or earmarked for redevelopment.
The former Jumpin’ Jaks building is the subject of plans to be turned into apartments after last year’s fire, while proposals to convert the former Walkabout into a gym never got off the ground. Ibiza, The Belfast, Code and Popworld continue to trade, but there are far fewer late-night venues than there were even 10 or 15 years ago.
I’ve contacted Fleurets estate agency, which is handling the sale, and all they said is ‘it’s not sold yet, solicitors are still gong through everything’, but fingers crossed we find out soon, and the building is brought back to use instead of being left empty.
