A vital community hub in Platt Bridge is facing an uncertain future after serious concerns were raised about the condition of its ageing roof.
Platt Bridge Community Centre is a non council funded, volunteer-run space that has become a key part of daily life for many residents. It provides activities, support and a place for people to meet, and relies entirely on fundraising and community support to stay open.
The roof has now deteriorated to the point where urgent repair or full replacement is needed. Without that work, there are fears the building could become unsafe and may have to close. A Crowdfunder titled “Raise the Roof” has been set up to help raise the money required for the work.
The centre runs a wide range of activities throughout the week, including line dancing, arts and crafts, tai chi, chair yoga, table tennis and themed events, alongside sessions aimed at improving wellbeing and reducing isolation.
It is open to everyone in the area and continues to welcome people of all ages to take part in its activities and community sessions.
Supporters say even small donations will make a difference, helping to keep the centre running and protecting a space that many people rely on.
