It was a very special day at St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Scholes, Wigan on 18 March 2026, when Archbishop of Liverpool, John Sherrington, visited to bless Lucy’s Prayer Garden.
The garden was created in memory of Lucy Davies, a former pupil who died aged 12 after a battle with leukaemia and sepsis. Lucy’s mum and dad joined pupils, staff, and members of the local community for the ceremony. It was an extremely poignant service, as Lucy loved her time at St Patrick’s and always wanted to return, but as a teacher. Her mum said: “she wanted to be the next Mrs Hobden, who taught her for three years, and Lucy could mimic her to perfection.”
Lucy’s Prayer Garden, built with help from Greenmount Projects, is a calm, reflective space where children and visitors can pause, pray, or simply take a moment to remember Lucy.
