Thank You, Mrs Livesey: 37 Years of Teaching, Music and Memories at St John’s
There have been plenty of smiles, and a few tears, at St John’s CE Primary School in Pemberton, Wigan as the school community says goodbye to deputy headteacher Mrs Angela Livesey.
On Friday 12 December, Mrs Livesey is retiring after an incredible 37 years in education, with 35 of those spent at St John’s. Over the years, she’s been a constant presence in school life, supporting pupils, families and staff, and helping to create the welcoming, close-knit community the school is known for.
Music has always been at the heart of her role. As the school’s lead musician, Mrs Livesey has organised countless plays, musical theatre productions and performances, played the piano for assemblies and church services, and encouraged children to get involved and give things a go
Events such as ‘St John’s Got Talent’ have become firm favourites and have given pupils memories they’ll carry with them long after they leave.
Mrs Livesey also helped shape the bi-annual WOWS Music Festival, bringing together young musicians, bands and local primary schools to celebrate music and community spirit.
As she steps into retirement, she is looking forward to spending more time with her family and supporting her daughter’s farm in Owaldtwisle, East Lancashire, which regularly visits schools, parties, playgroups and care homes.
Paying tribute, headteacher Mr Speakman said:
“On behalf of all of the staff, the governors, the children and all the families, we would like to say thank you to Mrs Livesey.
“Thank you for everything and the support you have given to us personally, individually and to all the families around us. We really do appreciate it.”
Wigan born and bred, Mrs Livesey’s impact goes far beyond the classroom. As she begins a new chapter, she leaves behind a school full of memories, music and gratitude — and a legacy that will be remembered for many years to come.
