Corrie star Ryan Prescott reopens Shevington charity shop
There was a great turnout in Shevington on Friday 27 February as Wigan & Leigh Hospice reopened its newly refurbished charity shop on Gathurst Lane.
Shoppers began arriving from 10am to see how the store had been transformed, with volunteers and supporters gathering outside ahead of a special ribbon cutting. Joining them for the occasion was Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor in Coronation Street. He officially reopened the shop and spent time chatting with volunteers and customers inside.
The refurbishment has created a brighter shop floor and a more practical layout, along with a larger sorting area at the back of the building. Hospice staff say this will make a big difference to volunteers, who process large volumes of donations each week behind the scenes.
The work was made possible thanks to the support of Greenmount Projects, who donated their time and expertise to complete the improvements.
Jane Dutton, Retail Development Manager at Wigan & Leigh Hospice, said the updated space benefits both customers and volunteers, particularly with the additional room to store and organise donations. She thanked Greenmount Projects for their continued support in helping bring the project together.
Supporters at the reopening were also provided with refreshments. The new flooring was donated by The Little Carpet Shop in Leigh, while Louise and Dave from Shevington Village Kitchen and Catering supplied food for volunteers and guests, which all just demonstrates what a brilliant community this is.
The Shevington branch is one of eleven hospice shops across the borough, which together help raise funds to support specialist care services in Wigan and Leigh.
The shop is located at 43 Gathurst Lane, Shevington, WN6 8HW. Opening times are Monday to Friday 9.30am to 3.30pm, Saturday 10am to 3pm, and closed on Sundays.
