Children at Shevington Vale Primary School have taken part in an unforgettable 24-hour Dance-a-thon, raising money for improvements to the school’s outdoor spaces while creating memories that will last a lifetime.
The challenge, which ran from Thursday into Friday, was introduced as a new twist on the school’s annual 24-hour relay event.
This year, the mission was simple – keep the school’s blue and yellow pom-poms moving for a full 24 hours.
The event got underway with a whole-school assembly at 3pm before children from Nursery through to Year 6 took to the dance floor for a packed programme of music and activities. Throughout the challenge, children danced to everything from party anthems and drum and bass to Zumba sessions and musical favourites, ensuring there was always plenty of energy and excitement.
Families signed up for time slots throughout the evening and overnight hours, helping to keep the challenge going around the clock.
In one of the sweetest parts of the event, some children even set alarms and returned to school at 2am and 4am to make sure the dancing never stopped.
Parents, families, staff and neighbours all helped keep the dancing going throughout the challenge, while the PTA provided a tuck shop and organised a silent disco as part of it too.
Then, after 24 hours of non-stop dancing, it ended with one giant conga line around the playground, followed by a countdown and a confetti cannon blast.
The money raised will help fund improvements to the school’s outdoor areas, but the lasting memory will surely be the sight of children turning up at in the middle of the night, and early morning, excited and ready to dance, just to make sure those blue and yellow pom-poms kept moving.
